Josias Wolrat Brützel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josiah Wolrat Brützel (also Josias Wolrad Brützel * 1653 in Immighausen , † 1733 ) was a German carver , sculptor and carpenter of the Baroque .

Life

Brützel was born in Immighausen, today a district of Lichtenfels in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Northern Hesse , and died there too. He learned the craft of carpenter, but worked his way up to a picture carver and sculptor with great artistry and charisma. He created many works of art worth seeing, in particular pulpits , pulpit altars and altarpieces that still adorn many churches in the area of the former principality of Waldeck today. The splendid, carved baroque portal of Hartwig's house in Korbach also comes from his workshop. In Brützel's early days, as with Jost Schilling , who also came from Immighausen, flat carving predominated, but over the years his works showed greater baroque physicality and decorative variety with magnificently carved fruit and flower hangings made of pomegranates, grapes, leaves and roses, angels and Angel heads.
