history
The place was called " Beranthorpe " for the first time around 860 as the property of the Corvey monastery . In 1070 too, taxes had to be paid to Corvey. The place appears in 1194 as the Vorwerk of the Flechtdorf monastery . After 1200 Berndorf came under the rule of the Counts of Schwalenberg, who later became Counts of Waldeck . By 1350 there were already several mills in Berndorf. In 1537 the upper, middle, lower and fulling mills were named. The so-called “Mönchshof” delivered fruit donations to the Netze monastery in 1537 . From 1833 services, tithe , taxes and feudal rights were replaced . In 1850 the place received local self-government.
On December 31, 1971, as part of the regional reform in Hesse , Berndorf was merged with six other places to form the new large municipality of Twistingal.
On June 26th and 27th, 2010 Berndorf celebrated its 1150th anniversary.
In October 2019, Berndorf appeared in the media nationwide for the first time, as the Wilke Waldecker meat and sausage company was located there. After three deaths in southern Hesse from pizza salami and boiled sausage slices contaminated with Listeria , which, according to the Robert Koch Institute's report, are associated with Wilke Waldecker meat and sausage products with a probability of 99.6 percent, production was stopped at the beginning of October 2019 by the Authority set. The goods were recalled worldwide. The company had to file for preliminary bankruptcy.
