history

The village

Ober-Waroldern was first mentioned in 1126 as "Warholderon". It is likely that the juniper bushes that once lined the nearby field paths gave this place (and the neighboring Nieder-Waroldern ) its name.

Research showed that in 1234 a "Bertrade de Waroldern" sold part of the village to the Aroldessen monastery . The Malberg estate also belongs to Ober-Waroldern . The Counts of Waldeck had a castle seat from the 12th to the 14th century, which was located just outside the village; it was halfway between Arolsen and the headquarters of Waldeck Castle . In the center of the village they had a Freihof - the Waldecker Hof. In the feudal registers of the county of Waldeck it is documented that in 1475 Heinrich von Erminghausen got the castle seat with the Waldecker Hof as a fief . When Heinrich von Erminghausen, Landdrost of Count Otto IV. Von Waldeck zu Landau , died in 1508, Count Philipp II. Von Waldeck-Eisenberg gave his fiefdom to the von Boyneburg family .

In 1537 the place was assigned to the Landau office and the Mengeringhausen court seat . Obviously, justice was also spoken in the village, or at least enforced. A piece of land on the edge of the village still bears the name "Galgenberg" and was still called "Bad Land" and "Court Square" in 1537, but long before that. The Waldecker Hof was sold as the first feudal estate in 1611.

The place was largely spared the horrors and destruction of the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648). In the book of sages from this time it is recorded that only two barns burned down.

One of the oldest buildings in the village is an old barn, which was rebuilt on July 31, 1756 on top of the burnt down, a sandstone- based barn opposite the church. The stones of the old barn can be seen. The barn that burned down on June 19, 1756 belonged to the aforementioned Freihof Waldecker Hof, buildings of this former Freihof no longer exist.

In the middle of the 17th century there is evidence of an extension to the church; the basic structure of the church (chancel) goes back to the 13th century. In 1856 the church was completely rebuilt. Since 1998, after extensive interior and exterior renovations, it has presented itself in a new beauty with warm colors. Exposed old frescoes provide information on the earlier design. The old school was built in 1832, the new one in 1901. Today it serves (rebuilt and expanded) as a village community center, the clubs as a domicile, and offers space for celebrations of all kinds.

Agriculture shaped the place over the centuries. 22 (smaller) Kötner estates and eight arable estates were registered in the first half of the 16th century. There are still three full-time farms and four part-time farms today (as of 2008).

At 31 December 1971 Upper Waroldern the course was municipal reform in Hesse with five additional locations for new large village Twistetal together . In 2006 Ober-Waroldern celebrated its 900th anniversary.

Gut Malberg

Gut Malberg

The estate is said to have existed for a long time. In 1253 a Conradus de Malberg was mentioned; this sex is said to have died out around 1350. Further documents and files can be found from around 1347 onwards. They name the Lords of Osterhausen as owners, and from 1472 the Lords of Kressenstein. Another change took place in 1533, when the lords of Wolmeringhausen are mentioned as feudal owners . According to new knowledge, this sex had an influence on the estate until its extinction in 1635.

The over 400 acres (approx. 104 ha) manor Malberg was originally a Waldeck fiefdom and had a moated castle (probably demolished between 1840 and 1860) and a courtyard. This Freihof ( Vorwerk ) Neudorf was located in the Hessian-Darmstadt area and not, as previously assumed, in the county or the later Principality of Waldeck.

After several changes of ownership, the Malberg estate fell back to the Waldeck dynasty in 1715. From 1783 it was managed by members of the Mennonite Evangelical Free Church . 1806 is said to have been owned by a Mr. Wittmer. In 1813 Malberg was given to Prince Georg Heinrich by the estates . In the middle of the 19th century the estate was sold again. In 1908 Malberg with 104.1 hectares passed to August Meister after several changes of ownership. He bequeathed the estate to his daughter Lillie Müller, b. Master. In 1948 she handed over half of the estate to her son Hans Harmsen as an inheritance. In 1954 he sold his part to the banker Adolf Möhle from Detmold . In 1958 Lillie Müller also sold her share to Adolf Möhle. In 1979 Gut Malberg passed to Adolf Möhle's grandson, Peter Möhle, who sold it in 1986 to the Höltl family, who owned it until mid-2019. The estate has now been sold to a new owner.

church

Ober-Waroldern Church

Elleringhausen has been part of the Ober-Waroldern parish since 1706 , and the neighboring village of Nieder-Waroldern from 1828 . The age of the church is very difficult to determine, as it has been rebuilt and changed very often in the past centuries. However, art historians assume a basic inventory that extends into the 13th century (chancel).

school

There was a school in town until 1969. Today the local students attend the primary school in Höringhausen , the central school in Sachsenhausen and the grammar school Alte Landesschule in Korbach.
