Gembeck Church

Gembeck is a district in the municipality of Twistor Valley in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg . It is the highest part of the municipality .

geography

Gembeck is idyllically situated in the lake triangle Edersee , Twistesee and Diemelsee . The Westphalian border is only 5 km north. The highest elevations are in the north-west of the village of the "soldiers bush" (438 m above sea level), in the south of the "Mühlenberge" (434 m) and "Am Köppel" in the north-east. To the west of Gembeck is the Dödinghausen desert .

history

Anno 940 it is mentioned in a document that Gembeck was obliged to give tithes to the Corvey monastery. In 1011 the place is mentioned as "Gambiki" owned by Bishop Meinwerk zu Paderborn . The Frederinghausen manor and the Obergembeck domain also belong to the place . The cities of Bad Arolsen and Korbach are nearby . Gembeck maintains a historical friendship with the mountain town of Landau, also located in Waldeck.

Incorporation

On January 1, 1974, Gembeck was incorporated into the municipality of Twistingal in the course of the regional reform in Hesse by virtue of state law.

Mining

To the west of the village was a Coelestin mine , the only large exposed occurrence of this strontium mineral in Germany, light blue and crystalline, embedded in dolomites from the Zechstein Age. This material is used for fireworks and for the manufacture of tracer ammunition . The pit is no longer in operation.
