Nieder-Waroldern is one of a total of seven districts in the municipality of Twistingal in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .
geography
Nieder-Waroldern is located in the triangle of the three Waldeck lakes, Eder , Diemel and Twistesee, on the main tourist route from the A44 Dortmund-Kassel motorway to Edersee and Kellerwald National Park . It is approx. 11 kilometers to the district town of Korbach .
history
The foundation of the place is attributed to the first settlement period from 0 to 400 AD . At the time of the Gau formation under Charlemagne , the settlement belonged to Ittergau , located on the border with Hessengau .
The first mention comes from an undated document from the time of the Archbishop of Mainz Wezilo , who served from 1084 to 1088. After this, the Archbishop handed over two Hufen (Mansos) property to Hasungen Monastery in "Waranlundrun", as the place was called in the document text. By 1226 Nieder-Waroldern was already part of the core area of the County of Waldeck . When the county was divided into offices, the place came to the Landau office . The respective bailiff in Landau was at the country manor possessions in Lower Waroldern invested and had here a castle seat . This castle, first mentioned in 1390, was a moated castle . Later it also included a dairy , which was closed in 1828 and its land was distributed.
The village was mainly characterized by agriculture , but there were also craft businesses early on. Some still exist today; they have been passed on for six generations and more.
Three brooks converge in the village. The main body of water is the "Wilde" (formerly "Dränke"). The current name draws on the devastating floods that occurred again and again in earlier times . The worst documented flood events occurred in 1956 and 1961. The floods are due, among other things, to the fact that three bodies of water converge here at the same time.
As part of the municipal reform in Hesse Nieder-Waroldern was with five other locations for new large village Twistetal together .
From 1977 to 1978 the village took part in a national competition “ Our village should be more beautiful ”. Here the first place was taken at the state level. Nieder-Waroldern was the most beautiful village in Hesse.
Moated castle
When and by whom the castle was built cannot be determined. It was first mentioned in a document in 1390. In the 14th century the lords of Twern (also von Zwehren) owned the castle. In 1396 they sold half of the town to Ulrich von Escheberg. In 1407 Count Heinrich VII von Waldeck owned the entire castle and in the same year pledged it to Werner von Gudenberg and Karl von Geismar. The latter received from Count Otto III in 1435 . from Waldeck to Landau the whole village to fief. From 1537 Adrian von Zertzen, bailiff of Landau, had the castle and village in lien. In 1773 the remaining buildings were demolished. Today there are only small remains of the foundation.
church
Nieder-Waroldern belongs to the Protestant parish of Ober-Waroldern, until 1828 the village had its own parish , to which the Dehringhausen branch still belonged. Before the Reformation , Dehringhausen was affiliated with the mother church and Nieder-Waroldern. From 1535 the church is Protestant. It was built in the 14th century. However, only the tower and the western wall remain from this period. In 1822/23 the remaining parts of the church were torn down and rebuilt. Also worth seeing is the altar by the so-called Korbach Franciscan Painter , originally from the Franciscan monastery in Korbach , which was dissolved in 1566, with depictions from the life of St. Francis of Assisi .
The Nieder-Warolder church has belonged to the parish of Ober-Waroldern since 1828 and the neighboring town of Elleringhausen since 1706 .
school
Even before 1666 the place had a school. The one-class school was only closed in 1969. The primary school now responsible for Nieder-Waroldern is located in Twiste .
