history

When and by whom the castle was built is not known. "Warholderen" was mentioned in a document in 1126 owned by the Aroldessen monastery and the Counts of Schwalenberg , who later became Counts of Waldeck . The lords of Twern (also von Zwehren) were named as other owners in the 14th century, who in 1396 transferred half of the town to Ulrich von Escheberg. Feudal lord was Heinrich VI. von Waldeck , who sealed this contract with . He was probably very interested in the castle and decided that further pledges should only be made to "established" Waldeckers. In 1407 his son, Count Heinrich VII von Waldeck , owned the entire castle and pledged it in the same year to Werner von Gudenberg and Karl von Geismar. The latter received from Count Otto III in 1435 . from Waldeck to Landau the whole village to fief. In 1537 the bailiff at Landau , Adrian von Zertzen, had the castle and village in pledge possession. Parts of the castle were probably already demolished at this time. In 1588 a dairy was established in place of the castle . In 1773 the remaining buildings were demolished and the existing moats filled in. Today the site is completely built over. Only small remains of the foundations of the former castle are left.
