The Jägersburg is an abandoned hunting lodge southwest of Odershausen , a district of Bad Wildungen in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .
location
The Jägersburg stood south of the 492 meter high "Nickelkopf" about 250 meters south of today's B 253 , halfway between Odershausen and the Bad Wildunger district of Hundsdorf . Today there is a refuge there. The course is part of the Kellerwaldsteig , stage 8.
history
In 1718 Prince Friedrich Anton Ulrich von Waldeck-Pyrmont had a small hunting lodge or pleasure palace built there. The high game population invited to hunt. The facility only existed for around 140 years. In 1857, after it had fallen into disrepair, Prince Georg Viktor sold it for demolition, which was completed in 1862. The still usable building material, stones, wood and bricks, were used to build houses in Bad Wildungen. The lands connected to the estate were divided up and came into the possession of farmers from Odershausen, Hundsdorf and Albertshausen .
Building description
The almost square structure had square stair towers around five meters wide at all four corners . The corner towers were connected by longer rectangular rooms on the ground floor. In the middle there was an octagonal room as the central point of living. The probably two-story property could be entered at two opposite entrances via a twelve-step double flight of stairs .
today
Today the former location, the former "castle garden", is designated as a large natural monument Jägersburg . The area serves as a bird protection tree. As part of a nature adventure trail that was laid out for the state horticultural show in Bad Wildungen, a refuge was built there and a fountain was uncovered. In the vicinity in the direction of Odershausen there are three old Süntel beeches , which are also designated as natural monuments.
