The Steffenburg was located at 352 meters above sea level , a little west of the water castle , Burg Adorf, in the center of the village .

history

At the beginning of the 16th century, Curd von Ense built a small tower castle or Kemenate in "Adorpe". The first documentary mention is in 1507, when the builder gave the complex to Count Philip II of Waldeck (-Eisenberg) as a fief . In the following period, the facility changed hands several times, which was partly recorded in fiefdoms. In 1507 Kurt von Ense transferred his house in Adorf to Count Philipp II von Waldeck and received it back from him as a fief. In 1537 Caspar von Dorfelde received the fief. In 1862 it was recorded in a municipal protocol that the Steffenburg was allowed to be used by the then mayor Schwarzenberg as a "dung place". Remains of the structure were completely demolished in the 1950s to widen the through-road.
