The Burg Hartenstein is a Outbound hilltop castle on 559 m above sea level. NHN near Eimelrod , a district of the municipality of Willingen in the northern Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg .
history
Eimelrod belonged to the Itter rule . Landgrave Heinrich II of Hesse promised the Lords of Itter to help them build this castle to secure their territory. The castle was built on the "Heissenstein", a mountain spur east of Eimelrod. It was first mentioned in a document in 1347. The Archdiocese of Mainz objected to the construction on the basis of a contract from the year 1355 with Hesse, and the complete demolition began in 1356. The castle therefore only existed for a few years. There are no visible remains.
The former Iterian area later became a Hesse-Darmstadt enclave in the middle of the county of Waldeck . Only after Waldeck was annexed to Prussia in 1929 did this enclave become part of the Eisenberg district .
