Castle Bring

The castle Bring the ruins of a small hilltop castle on 248  m above sea level. NN in the Edertal near Edertal - Bringhausen in the north Hessian district of Waldeck-Frankenberg , the remains of which are now on an island in the Edersee .

location

After the construction of the Edertalsperre in 1914, the castle hill became today's love island , which can be reached from Bringhausen by boat or by swimming when the lake is completely blocked . When the water is low, usually in late summer or autumn, the island with the former castle hill can also be reached on foot.

history

The date the castle was built is not known. The builder is said to have been a Brunink , and the "Burg Brunink" later became the "Burg Bring". A "Knight of Bringhausen" was first mentioned in a document in 1196. The castle can therefore be seen as a security for what is now the desolate valley town. The Counts of Waldeck had a castle seat and an estate here in Bringhausen in the 15th century .

It is not known when the castle was abandoned or perhaps destroyed and then fell into disrepair. In the 19th century it was already in ruins with only a few remains of the wall; these are now in the Edersee and are particularly visible when the water level is low.

The village of Bringhausen, which perished after the construction of the Edertalsperre, now known as the Altbringhausen desert, stretched west below the castle in the Eder valley. It had to be given up for the dam, and its residents built a new village around 500 meters west of the castle ruins on the slope above the Edersee.

Current condition

Only small remains of the wall remain, which mainly consist of foundation walls and cellar remains. Legends are entwined around the remaining remains , about knights and imaginative creatures, such as goblins who are said to have guarded the gold of the Eder.
