Grimmenstein Castle

The castle Grimmenstein is an Outbound hilltop castle on 400  m above sea level. NHN near Vasbeck , a district of the Diemelsee municipality in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in North Hesse .

location

The exact location of the lost castle can no longer be determined with certainty today. It was probably located about 400 meters south of Canstein Castle and about two kilometers east of Vasbeck on a slope. The district is called "Auf der Eulenkirche (Dülenkerken)". The old Waldeck border ran over this slope .

history

There is no documentary record of who built it. Presumably it was built on a prehistoric place of worship . In the 12th century the castle complex was first mentioned in a document as "munitio dulenkerken" owned by the Corvey Monastery .

In the 14th century, Count Heinrich IV. Von Waldeck , because of the constant border disputes with the Archdiocese of Cologne , built the “Grimmenstein” opposite Canstein in Cologne instead of the previous castle . Due to a settlement from 1356, Count Heinrich IV was forced to demolish the castle. In return, he was with half of Cansteins invested . He then had to cede this fiefdom to the noble family Rabe von Pappenheim , who later called themselves Rabe von Canstein .

There are no visible building remains.
