Robert J. Doherty

Robert J. Doherty (born 1924 in Everett , Massachusetts - † January 6, 2019 in Cambridge , Massachusetts) was an American photographer , scientist and museum director.

His photographic work was shown for the first time in Watertown, Connecticut, then at the Arts Club of Louisville, the Louisville Art Center Association School, and the Allen R. Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville . In 1962, Doherty became curator of the photography collection at the Hite Art Institute and two years later interim director of the institute, and from 1966 to 1972 he served as director. From 1972 to 1981 he served as director of the prestigious George Eastman House . Doherty has u. a. Written on social documentary photography, creative photography and photographs of the First World War.
