Bruce Barnes
Bruce "Sunpie" Barnes (* 20th century in Benton , Arkansas , United States ) is an American blues musician and singer. The multi-instrumentalist is considered an outstanding harmonica player , whose role models include Sonny Boy Williamson II , Carey Bell and Lee Oskar . In addition, he has mastered the accordion typical of Zydeco and various other instruments.
Life
Sunpie Barnes grew up in Benton, Arkansas. He learned to play the blues harp from his father . He studied marine biology at Henderson State University on a football scholarship . He then played for the Kansas City Chiefs in the National Football League . Since the end of his football career, Barnes worked as a ranger at the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve in Louisiana . He has also worked as an actor in commercials and Hollywood productions.
In addition to his various bread acquisitions, Barnes always remained connected to music. His interests are blues and zydeco as well as their African roots. In 1991 he founded the band "Sunpie and the Louisiana Sunspots" with drummer Harold Ray Brown (formerly with War ). Before that he had a band called "Sunpie & the Creole Zydeco Fanners".
Another focal point in Sunpie Barnes' life is the New Orleans Mardi Gras with its parades. He is a leading member of the "Skeletons", also known as the "Skull and Bones Gang", one of the oldest carnival groups in the city. He is also a member of the Black Men of Labor Social Aid and Pleasure Club.
