Anthony Bannon

Anthony Bannon (born December 6, 1943 in Hanover , New Hampshire ) is an American art critic .

Bannon is the seventh director of the George Eastman House , the world's first museum of photography and film, in Rochester, New York . Prior to his appointment in 1996, he was director of the arts department at the State University of New York College at Buffalo and director of the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

Bannon first studied biology and English , then focused on cultural studies , was also a critic for various media and has published several books. His book, The Photo-Pictorialists of Buffalo won the American Photographic Historical Society's Merit Award, and his essay on deafness won the Gallaudet University Award. His publications also include essays on Steve McCurry , Diane Bush , Hiroshi Watanabe and Roger Eberhard .
