Oimatsu Kazuyoshi

Oimatsu Kazuyoshi ( Japanese 老 松 一 吉 ) (born October 30, 1911 in Tonami ; † March 24, 2001 ) was a Japanese figure skater and figure skating coach.

Oimatsu was a pioneer in Japanese figure skating. He started for the Osaka ice skating club . In 1931 he became a Japanese master . In 1932 he took part in the Olympic Games in Lake Placid and finished them in ninth place. In addition to Ryuichi Obitani , he was the first Japanese to take part in figure skating in the Olympic Games . At the World Championships in Montréal , he was seventh a little later. He appeared internationally for the next time in the Olympic year 1936. Here he finished ninth at the European Championships , at which non-Europeans were still allowed. At the World Championships he was 15th and the Olympic Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he finished 20th.

After the Second World War , he ended his active sports career, became a coach and passed on the knowledge he had gained from his international appearances. He was one of the few to see the Olympic Games return to Lake Placid in 1980 .
