Nobuo Sato

Nobuo Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 信 夫 , Satō Nobuo ; born January 3, 1942 in Osaka , Osaka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese figure skater and figure skating coach.

Satō was from 1957 to 1966 ten times in a row Japanese champion in figure skating and thus holds the national title record in the men's competition. He represented Japan at the 1960 Olympics , where he finished 14th, and in 1964 , where he finished eighth. He took part in world championships six times , his best result there being fourth at the 1965 world championships .

Sato is married to the former Japanese figure skating champion Kumiko Ōkawa . Their daughter Yuka Satō was figure skating world champion in 1994 . Together with Machiko Yamada , Sato is one of the most successful coaches in Japan. His students were or are Miki Andō , Shōko Ishikawa , Hirokazu Kobayashi , Takahiko Kozuka , Yukari Nakano , Yuka Satō, Wun-Chang Shih , Fumie Suguri and Mao Asada .

In 2010, Nobuo Satō was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame .
