Yukari Nakano
Yukari Nakano ( Japanese 中 野 友 加里 , Nakano Yukari ; born August 25, 1985 in Kōnan , Japan ) is a Japanese figure skater who starts in a single run .
She began figure skating in 1991 at the Tokai Figure Skating Club Grand Prix and was trained by Machiko Yamada . Midori Ito motivated her to do even more intensive training.
Nakano won two Junior Grand Prix competitions and was a silver medalist at the 2002 Junior World Figure Skating Championships . She made history at Skate America in 2002 where she became the third figure skater to perform a three-time Axel for the first time in ten years. At the Japanese Championships in 2002, the West Japanese Championships in 2002 and the Kantō-Gakusei Freeskating Championships in 2004, she showed a triple-axel-double- toe loop combination.
From 2004 on, Nakano attended Waseda University in Tokyo .
After two disappointing seasons of the year (2003 to 2005), Nakano made a strong comeback in the 2005 to 2006 season. She won the NHK Trophy and the bronze medal at the Grand Prix final . In 2005 she landed three-time Axel in five consecutive competitions (Yamanashi Kokutai 2005, Kantō-Gakusei Freeskating Championships, Figure Skating Championships Tokyo, Skate Canada and the Asian Championships). At Skate Canada she was the first woman to have a triple axel under the new ISU rating system in the adult competition. She was fifth at the Japanese Championships 2005-2006 and missed thereby a starting place in the Olympic team. At the Japanese Championships 2006-2007 she was third behind Mao Asada and Miki Andō and thus acquired the right to participate in the subsequent World Championships, where she finished 5th. In the 2007/08 season she again landed three-time Axel successfully at Skate Canada, the Cup of Russia and the Grand Prix Final.
A characteristic element of Nakano is the "donut pirouette". She is also known for her wrapping technique during the jumps.
