Yuka Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 有 香 , Satō Yuka ; born February 14 , 1973 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a former Japanese figure skater who started in a single run . She is the world champion of 1994 .
Career
Both parents of Yuka Satō are former figure skaters and figure skating coaches. Her father Nobuo Satō took part in the Winter Olympics in 1960 and 1964 and finished fourth in the 1965 World Cup . Her mother Kumiko Satō , b. Ōkawa, was an Olympic participant in 1964 and 1968 and was fifth at the World Championships in 1967 and 1968 .
Yuka Satō was trained alongside her parents by Peter Dunfield in Canada . She was Japanese champion in figure skating for women in 1993 and 1994 , after she had already become national runner-up behind Midori Itō in 1990 and 1992 . The junior world champion from 1990 followed in their footsteps by winning the 1994 world championship in Chiba . Five years after Ito, it was the second Japanese world title in women's competition. A year earlier, Satō had just missed a medal at the World Cup in Prague with fourth place. She took part in two Winter Olympics. In 1992 in Albertville she was seventh and in 1994 in Lillehammer she was fifth. After winning the World Cup, she ended her amateur career in 1994.
After switching to the pros, she ran at the ice revue Stars on Ice. In 1998 she began to participate in professional pair skating competitions with Jason Dungjen . She has also been married to him since June 5, 1999. Today the two work as a trainer and Satō also as a choreographer. Her students include Takahiko Kozuka , Jeremy Abbott, and Alissa Czisny .
