Linda Sue Fratianne (born August 2, 1960 in Los Angeles ) is a former American figure skater who started in a single run . She is the world champion in 1977 and 1979 .

Fratianne is the daughter of former California Supreme Court Justice Robert Fratianne and his wife Virginia. Her parents were divorced.

Fratianne was trained by Frank Carroll during her career . In 1976 she was runner-up at the national championships behind Dorothy Hamill . There she was the first woman to show two different triple jumps, Toeloop and Salchow . In the same year she played her first World Cup and her first Olympic Games . There she immediately became fifth or eighth. The following year, Fratianne won the gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo as the reigning American champion despite a fall at the triple Salchow , ahead of the favored Anett Pötzsch from the GDR and Dagmar Lurz from the FRG. With Fratianne's victory, a rivalry between her and Pötzsch that lasted until 1980 began. At the 1978 World Cup in Ottawa , Pötzsch retaliated and relegated Fratianne to second place. A year later, the tide turned again at the World Cup in Vienna . Fratianne was world champion for the second time before Pötzsch. In the 1980 Olympic year, Fratianne was national champion for the fourth time in a row . At the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, Fratianne Pötzsch was defeated and at the World Championships in Dortmund it was only enough for a bronze medal behind Pötzsch and Lurz. After that, she ended her amateur career.

Fratianne had her strength mainly in the freestyle, but was also a good compulsory runner. In terms of duty, she was mostly behind Pötzsch and Lurz, whereas she mostly won the short program and the freestyle. She had a talent for jumping that made it possible for her to make triple jumps look easy. In addition to her running skills, she was particularly known for her costumes.

During her professional career, Fratianne ran for ten years with Ice Follies and Disney on Ice.

From 1988 to 2001 she was married to the ski racer Nick Maricich, with whom she has a daughter, born in 1991. She lives and trains in Sun Valley , Idaho .
