Alexandra "Sasha" Pauline Cohen (born October 26, 1984 in Los Angeles ) is an American figure skater who starts in a single run .

Life

Cohen was born in the Westwood neighborhood . Her parents are Galina and Roger Cohen. The mother, Galina Cohen, née Feldman, is a Jewish emigrant from the Ukrainian SSR who trained in ballet . Therefore, Sasha Cohen also understands the Russian language. Her father is a lawyer with Dorsey & Whitney. Her sister Natasha is a concert pianist.

Cohen started ice skating at the age of seven. Before that she was a gymnast. Professionally, she began figure skating at the age of eleven. Your trainer is John Nicks . Before that, she had numerous other coaches, including Tatjana Tarasowa and Robin Wagner . Cohen trains at the Aliso Viejo Ice Palace and starts for the Orange County Figure Skating Club.

In the Olympic year of 2002, Cohen made an international appearance for the first time when she finished fourth straight away at her first World Cup and her first Olympic Games . She also defended fourth place at the subsequent World Championship in 2003 and also won the Grand Prix final that season . In 2004 in Dortmund she was runner-up behind Shizuka Arakawa and in 2005 in Moscow behind Irina Sluzkaja . In 2006 Cohen won the US championships for the first time . At her second Olympic Games in Turin , she won the silver medal behind Arakawa. At the subsequent World Cup , she won the bronze medal. After that, she left competitive sports and toured with the ice revues Champions on Ice and Stars on Ice. She also worked as an actress. She had guest appearances in " Las Vegas " and " CSI: NY ". Cohen tried to qualify for the Vancouver Olympics, but failed to finish fourth in the national championships.

In 2005 her autobiography "Fire on Ice" was published.
