Tatiana Anatoljewna Tarasowa ( Russian Татьяна Анатольевна Тарасова ; English Tatiana Tarasova; born February 13, 1947 in Moscow , Soviet Union ) is a former Soviet figure skater who started in pair skating , and a former Soviet and Russian figure skating coach .

Tarasova is the younger of two daughters of the Soviet ice hockey player and coach Anatoly Tarasov . At the age of five, her father taught her how to skate, she started pair skating with Alexander Tichomirow and later with Georgi Proskurin . After a bronze medal in 1964 and silver in 1965 at the Soviet championships, she was seventh with him at the 1965 World Championships and fourth at the 1966 European Championships . Due to an injury at the age of 18, she had to end her active career.

A year later, on the advice of her father, Tarasova began coaching. From 1974 to 1979 she studied at the State University for Physical Culture. in Moscow. She is the most successful figure skating coach in history. As a trainer, she has won more than 41 gold medals at all Olympic Winter Games and World and European Championships since 1967 . At the Olympic Games , her students won nine gold medals in three of the four disciplines ( men , couples and ice dancing ) by 2006 .

In 2008 Tarasova was inducted into the Figure Skating Hall of Fame . Already in 1984 she received the Order of Friendship between Nations .

She has now ended her coaching career and works as a TV commentator.

Private

Tarasova was married three times. Her first two marriages were short-lived: the first failed after just two years because her workload ruined family life, and the second marriage ended shortly after with her husband's suicide. At the age of 31 she met the well-known Russian pianist and folk artist of the USSR Vladimir Krainew (1944–2011), who was a professor at the Hanover Music Academy , and was married to him until his death. She has no children, but has an almost maternal relationship with her nephew.
