Order of Friendship between Nations
The Order of Friendship between Nations ( Russian Орден Дружбы народов ) was an order of the Soviet Union founded on October 17, 1972 and awarded from December 29, 1972 to December 21, 1991 . This order was donated to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Soviet Union. It was awarded to citizens of the Soviet Union or another state as well as to companies, organizations and military units that strengthened friendship between states - a total of 72,760 times. In a modified form, the award continued to be presented by the Russian President a total of 1212 times between March 1992 and March 1994.
On March 2, 1994, the Order of Friendship was founded by Ukas № 442 of the Russian President , which is regarded as the successor to the Soviet award. In May 2002 a new order of friendship among peoples was founded in Belarus .
