Tærø is a Danish island in Ulvsund between the islands of Sjælland ( German : Zealand ) and Møn . The island has a size of 175  hectares and is uninhabited. The island is part of the parish community ( Dan. : Sogn ) Stensby Sogn , which until 1970 Harde Bårse Herred in præstø county belonged then to Langebæk in the former Storstrøms Amt associated with the local government reform on 1 January 2007 in the vordingborg municipality in the Region Sjælland has risen.

Horses on Tærø

The landowners did not own the land, but were tenants of JC Apel, who ran the Jesminde farm on the island. In 1875 there was the Jesminde Farm and 10 houses with a total of 52 people. In 1880 the island had 64 inhabitants. In 1890 the number fell to 38 people. In the 1930s it decreased drastically. Since 1980 the population has been below 10. In 2007 the population was three and since 2014 the island has been uninhabited.
