Nicole Bobek (born August 23, 1977 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American figure skater who started in a single run .

As an only child, Bobek was raised by her Czech mother Jana and her friend Joyce Barron. Her parents were never married, she never met her father and she has no intention of making up for it.

Bobek was considered a good jumper and charismatic runner, but also an undisciplined student and unsteady competitor. In 1995 she became US Champion and won her only significant international bronze medal at the World Championships in Birmingham behind Chen Lu and Surya Bonaly . A year earlier she had failed to take part in the freestyle as 25th at the World Championships . In 1997 she took part in a world championship for the third and last time, but did not get past 13th place. During this World Cup in Lausanne , her coach, the famous Carlo Fassi, died . Her only Olympic Winter Games ended in Nagano in 1998 , plagued by a hip injury, in 17th place.

Bobek was notorious for poor discipline, occasionally smoking cigarettes, wearing a lot of jewelry on the ice, and for her numerous changes of coach. In total, she had eleven coaches in her amateur career. During her greatest success in 1995, she was trained by Richard Callaghan . After the end of her amateur career, she switched to the professionals. Until 2004 it ran at the ice revue Champions on Ice.

Bobek came into conflict with the law several times. She was charged with burglary in 1994 and drug trafficking in 2009. She was accused of being a member of a drug ring. On June 18, 2010, she was found guilty and sentenced to five years probation and 250 hours of community service. She admitted to having been a drug addict and now wants to help other drug addicts break the habit. She also attends courses to get a high school diploma using the General Educational Development Test . She currently works in the Palm Beach Skate Zone in Lake Worth , Florida , an ice rink, where she does all kinds of work.
