Kimberly Claire "Kimmie" Meissner (born October 4, 1989 in Towson , Maryland ) is a former US figure skater who started in a single run . She is the world champion of 2006 .

biography

Meissner is the youngest of four children of the married couple Judy and Paul Meissner. She is catholic. Meissner began figure skating at the age of six, animated by her three older brothers who played ice hockey . She trained most of the time at the University of Delaware figure skating club in Newark .

After she was first at the US championships in 2003 in the newcomers and first in the juniors in 2004, she finished third in her first participation in the senior class in 2005 . In 2006 she was national runner-up behind Sasha Cohen and qualified for the Olympic Games in Turin . This she finished in sixth place. A little later, she also played her first world championship in Calgary, Canada . She won the freestyle with seven established triple peaks, including two triple-triple combinations and thus also the gold medal at her first world championship. The last time the Ukrainian Oksana Bajul succeeded in doing this was at the 1993 World Cup .

In 2007 Meissner became the first US champion and won the Four Continents Championships in Colorado Springs . At the world championship , to which she traveled as the defending champion, she finished fourth. In 2008 she was seventh in her last World Cup for the time being . Then she toured with the ice revue Stars on Ice.

From 2003 to 2008 Meissner was trained by Pam Gregory , then she switched to Todd Eldredge and, on his recommendation, to his former trainer Richard Callaghan . Since autumn 2009 she has been supervised by Chris Conte , who also choreographs ice shows for her. Meissner was only the second American after Tonya Harding to regularly jump the triple Axel .
