Ashley Wagner (born May 16, 1991 in Heidelberg , Germany ) is an American figure skater who starts in a single run .

Career

Ashley Wagner was born to a US soldier who was stationed in Heidelberg at the time of her birth. She began figure skating in Alaska at the age of five . When she watched Tara Lipinski's Olympic victory on television in 1998, she began to want to take part in the Olympic Games .

In 2008, Wagner won the bronze medal at the US championships and qualified for the first time for four continents championships and for world championships . At her debuts there she finished eighth and 16th respectively.

In January 2012, Ashley Wagner became the US champion for the first time in San José, California . In February she won the gold medal at the Four Continents Championships in Colorado Springs . She improved her personal best in all segments and achieved a total score of 192.41 points. At the World Championships in Nice , she finished fourth.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Wagner was able to achieve a 7th place. With 193.20 points in the freestyle (127.99 points) and short program (63.21 points), she was just below her personal best. In the team competition before, however, she won a bronze medal.

At the domestic world championships in Boston in 2016, she was runner-up and won her first world championship medal.

Wagner starts for the SC of Wilmington . From 2008 to 2011 she was trained by Priscilla Hill . In the summer of 2011 she moved to John Nicks .

In contrast to most figure skaters, Wagner performs their jumps and pirouettes in a clockwise direction. She has already landed triple-triple combinations in the competition.
