Narumi Takahashi ( Japanese 高橋 成 美 , Takahashi Narumi ; born January 15, 1992 in Chiba , Chiba Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese figure skater who starts in pair skating .

Career

Narumi Takahashi was born in Chiba . She followed her older sister and started figure skating at the age of five. Because of her father's occupation, the family moved to China , where Takahashi spent five years of her life from the age of nine. At the age of twelve she switched from running individually to running in pairs . Her first partner was Gao Yu, with whom she took part in national championships for China. Takahashi left China and returned to Japan. There she found a new partner, but due to the small size differences, she did not succeed. After two years of correspondence with trainer Richard Gauthier , whom she met at a competition in China, she moved to Montreal . Gauthier was looking for a pair of skiers for her and Bruno Marcotte finally recommended Mervin Tran , who became her partner after a trial training session in 2007. They train together in St. Leonard and are supported by the Japanese Figure Skating Association.

In 2008, Takahashi and Tran became Japanese champions in pair skating for the first time. In 2010 and 2011 they stood on the podium at junior world championships . In 2010 they made their debut at four continents championships and in 2011 at world championships .

At the 2012 World Championships in Nice , Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran surprisingly won the bronze medal. It was the first World Cup medal for Japan in pair skating.

The couple has since separated. Takahashi is currently running with Ryuichi Kihara .
