Lake Worth is a city in Palm Beach County , Florida . The city name comes from William J. Worth , a former US general. In 2010 the population was 34,910.

Lake Worth's coordinates are: 26 ° 37 '11 "N, 80 ° 3' 31" W. The city is seven miles from West Palm Beach and 60 miles north of downtown Miami . The city has an area of ​​16.7 km², of which 14.6 km² are land and 2.1 km² are water.

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 34,910 inhabitants were distributed over 16,473 households. The population density was 2391.1 inh / km². 60.0% of the population identified themselves as whites, 19.8% as African American , 5.6% as Indians and 1.0% as Asian Americans . 9.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 4.6% to several ethnic groups. 39.6% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

24.8% of the population were younger than 20 years, 32.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.3% were 40 to 59 years old, and 15.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 54.0% of the population were male and 46.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 37,288, with 27.8% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 56.61% of the population, 26.57% spoke Spanish and 16.82% had another mother tongue.
