Pahokee is a city in Palm Beach County in the US state of Florida with 5649 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

The city is located on the southeast bank of the Okeechobeesees , about 70 km west of West Palm Beach .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 5649 inhabitants were distributed over 2002 households. The population density was 403.5 inh / km². 28.9% of the population identified themselves as whites , 56.1% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 11.5% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.9% to several ethnic groups. 33.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 46.1% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 27.6% of all households. 73.5% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.21 people and the average family size was 3.77 people.

32.9% of the population were younger than 20 years, 24.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.1% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.5% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 51.1% of the population were male and 48.9% were female.

The median annual income was $ 34,159, with 33.4% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 72.78% of the population, 26.65% spoke Spanish and 0.57% had another mother tongue.

On November 15, 1996, Pahokee High School was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .

US Highways 98 and 441 and Florida State Road 15 run through the city . The nearest airport is Palm Beach County Glades Airport just south of the city. The nearest international airport is Palm Beach Airport at West Palm Beach, approximately 40 miles away.

The crime rate in 2010 was 367 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were two rapes, 13 robberies, 52 assaults, 54 break-ins, 95 thefts, six car thefts and two arson attacks.
