Tom Priestley (film editor)

Tom Priestley (born April 22, 1932 in London ) is a British film and sound editor .

Life

Priestley is the son of the writer John Boynton Priestley . He began his career as an assistant editor in the early 1960s. From 1964 he worked as an independent film editor. He also worked several times as a sound editor (sound designer). As a film editor, he was responsible for editing more than 20 productions .

In 1966 he received the British Academy Film Award for Best British Film Editing for Protest .

Priestley was nominated for an Oscar in 1973 for Best Editing for his work on Everyone's First To Die . He was also nominated for the British Academy Film Award.

After the 1987 film The Last Days in Kenya , Priestley withdrew from the film business and took care of his father's literary legacy. With his participation, the JB Priestley Society was created in 1997, of which he is also chairman.

His son Tom Priestley junior works as a cameraman .
