Tonami ( Japanese 砺 波 市 , - shi ) is a city in Toyama Prefecture in Japan .

Tonami is west of Toyama and south of Takaoka .
history
The municipality Tonami ( 砺 波 町 , -machi ) was granted town charter on April 1, 1954 . With the incorporation on November 1, 2004 of the community Shogawa ( 庄 川 町 , -machi ), the city was re-established.
