The Orpheusbülbül ( Hypsipetes amaurotis , Syn . : Ixos amaurotis ) is an East Asian songbird.
features
The 28 cm long Orpheusbülbül is a gray-brown bird with brown cheeks and a long tail, which stands out for its loud, beeping song.
Occurrence
The distribution area extends from the Russian Far East over northeast China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan to the Philippine Babuyan Islands , Batan Islands and Luzon .
The bird migrates to the wintering areas in huge flocks. Due to changes in arable farming, the Orpheusbülbül winters far more northerly than was possible decades ago. While it used to be a resident of the forest, it is now also found in rural and urban settings.
behavior
In summer, the Orpheusbülbül feeds mainly on insects, in autumn and winter on fruits and seeds, so it is considered an agricultural pest in Japan.
