Live and act

In addition to his work as a teacher in Vasbeck since 1921, he began to deal with the history of this village. When he was transferred in 1933, he summarized his results, which he had unearthed in several archives , in a local history of Vasbeck, which was printed in 1936 as volume 36/37 of the "History sheets for Waldeck and Pyrmont ". In 1939 the village family book Vasbeck followed, which served as a model for further work in this direction.

In addition to his job as a teacher and headmaster in Arolsen, Wetekam was also a volunteer at the Waldeck Historical Society, from 1949 until his death as chairman of the society. In 1964 a chronicle of the town of his native Landau in Waldeck was published, which made him an honorary citizen. In 1971 he published a "Waldeckische Landeskunde " together with Bernhard Martin .

In the series “Waldeckische Ortssippenbücher ” founded by Wetekam, 91 volumes had been published by 2015, including 11 written by Wetekam himself.

A street in Vasbeck has been named after him, as well as in Bad Arolsen.
