history

At the end of the eighth century, waves are first mentioned.

The current church was built between 1846 and 1849. But this is not the first, only a few meters away from the current one was a smaller church, which was rebuilt around 1510 after being destroyed. From this come a carved crucifix from the 15th century and the font from the 13th century. The baroque pulpit from 1709 was made by the Waldeck sculptor Josias Wolrat Brützel and was erected in the 1960s; originally it was in the Berndorfer church. In the first row of the side block is a valuable, carved bench belonging to the patron saint, the Counts of Waldeck .

From 1692, the village, together with Bergheim and Königshagen , was part of the Paragium Waldeck-Bergheim , newly created by Count Christian Ludwig for his son from Josias (1696–1763) from his second marriage. Prince of Waldeck-Pyrmont was ruled under the suzerainty of the ruling line of the house.

Towards the end of the Second World War , on Good Friday 1945, when American tank units advanced from Bad Wildungen towards Fritzlar , there were waves of fighting with retreating German Army and SS soldiers. Parts of the village were set on fire: 12 farms and 17 barns fell victim to the fire.

In the 20th century the menhir was in waves from waves from the 3rd millennium BC. Discovered.

On May 5, 1970, a starfighter of the reconnaissance wing 51 "Immelmann" of the German Air Force crashed near the village . The pilot was killed.

On December 31, 1971, shafts was incorporated into the community of Edertal.

In 2001, Wellen received the silver medal in the federal decision Our village has a future .
