Johanneskirchenkopf

The Johanneskirchenkopf , also Johanniskirchenkopf , is a 332 m above sea level high mountain northwest of Fritzlar in Northern Hesse . It is located between the Geismar district and the Edertal district of Wellen , but within the boundaries of the Züschen district .

history

On the Johanneskirchenkopf could Donareiche , a Donar -Sanctuary the chat , have confessed to 723 by the Anglo-Saxon monk Boniface was made "in Geismar". According to tradition, a chapel was built from its wood, probably the first St. Peter's church in nearby Fritzlar. However, there are also assumptions that the predecessor chapel of the Johanneskirche in the village of Hayn , which has been a desert since at least 1433 , was built from it. The remains of the Johanneskirche are still preserved in the midst of a dense stand of oaks on the Johanneskirchenkopf and can be viewed along with a newly planted "Donar oak".

It is more likely, however, that the Donar oak felled by Bonifatius stood on the cathedral hill of today's city of Fritzlar. This is particularly plausible because the wood of the tree is said to have been used to build the first church in Fritzlar. The Chatti settlement "Altgeismar" , which was excavated in the 1970s a few hundred meters southwest of today's town center of Geismar, is much closer to the Fritzlar cathedral hill than the Johanneskirchenkopf.
