The Counts of Waldeck-Bergheim were a branch of the Waldeck family ; beginning with Karl (1778–1849) they called themselves "Counts of Waldeck and Pyrmont in Bergheim". The line was founded by Josias I von Waldeck-Bergheim (1696–1763) and died out in the male line in 1938.

Josias I was a son of Count Christian Ludwig von Waldeck from his second marriage to Johannette von Nassau-Idstein . On September 30, 1695, his father had changed the Primogenitur house law of the Waldeck family, which he himself had enacted in 1685 and modified in 1687, insofar as he was a paragium under suzerainty for the second-born surviving son, at that time Heinrich Georg (1683–1736) the ruling line of the house, consisting of the three villages Bergheim , Königshagen and Wellen . This regulation was confirmed by Emperor Leopold I on August 22, 1697 with the entire Waldeck inheritance house law of 1685/87 . After the childless death of Heinrich Georg, the Paragium fell in 1736 to the last surviving son of Christian Ludwig, Josias (1696–1763).

The residence was Bergheim Castle , built in 1692 , in today's Bergheim district of the Edertal community in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .

Josias' successor as Count of Waldeck-Bergheim was his son Georg Friedrich (1732–1771). When he died without any descendants entitled to inherit, his brother Josias II followed. His descendants continued the line until June 8, 1966, when Georg Wilhelm Heinrich Karl, Count of Waldeck and Pyrmont in Bergheim, died without male descendants.

Georg Friedrich Karl (1785–1826), the youngest son of Josias II, combined the house's free float from the inherited estate of the Limpurg taverns in the Gaildorf area in Württemberg and established from it in 1816 the state rule Waldeck-Limpurg , which was under Württemberg suzerainty , which up to Existed in 1888.
