Schilling from Cannstatt
Schilling von Cannstatt (also Schilling von Canstatt or Schilling von Canstadt ) is the name of an old Swabian noble family that possibly goes back to the Schilling von Lahnstein .
history
One of the first reliable members of the Schilling family is Heinricus dictus Scilling, who was mentioned in documents from 1268 onwards . He belonged to the castle crew of the castle Hohenneuffen northeast of Reutlingen and was called from 1278 Ritter .
The later seat at Cannstatt near Stuttgart has been taken over by the family, which acquired the office of inheritance from Swabia early on , as a permanent surname. In the course of time various branches formed, the members of which mainly served the House of Württemberg . Georg Schilling von Canstatt (1490–1554) was one of the most famous personalities . He was Grand Prior of the Order of St. John for Germany and as such Prince of Heitersheim .
With the acquisition of the Hohenwettersbach rule in 1725, Messrs. Schilling von Cannstatt were members of the knightly canton Neckar-Black Forest of the Swabian knight circle and thus imperial knights until 1805 . Already from 1542 to 1659 and 1722 a branch of the family belonged to the knight canton Kocher because of the possession of Bodelshofen and Sulzburg .
Since the first half of the 18th century, the dynasty acquired significant property in the county of Baden . In 1911 there was a Grand Ducal Baden confirmation of the baron status due to old membership of the Swabian Imperial Knighthood. A single family was officially recognized in the Kingdom of Bavaria as early as 1879 . Another Anglo-North American line had given up the title of nobility.
