Josias II (Waldeck-Bergheim)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Josias II. Wilhelm Leopold , Count of Waldeck-Bergheim (born October 16, 1733 in Bergheim ; † June 4, 1788 in Bergheim), was the fourth son of Count Josias I of Waldeck-Bergheim (1696–1763) and his wife Dorothea Sophia Wilhelmine von Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim (1698–1774). Josias II was a colonel in the Waldeck contingent battalion fighting on the Prussian side in the Seven Years' War .

Count von Waldeck zu Bergheim

Josias I received from his father, Christian Ludwig von Waldeck , the Bergheim Palace and the three villages Bergheim, Wellen and Königshagen as a paragium and became the founder of the Count's sidelines Waldeck-Bergheim of the Princely House of Waldeck. His successor as Count von Waldeck-Bergheim was his third (but oldest surviving) son Georg Friedrich (1732–1771). When he died without heirs entitled to inheritance, his brother Josias II followed him in Paragium.

Josias II had inheritance claims through his mother to parts of the former Limpurg rule , which were finally confirmed with the conclusion of the Limpurg inheritance dispute in 1774/75. This gave him about three quarters of the rule of Limpurg-Gaildorf-Solms-Assenheim.

His descendants continued the Waldeck-Bergheim line until September 27, 1938, when Hermann, Count von Waldeck and Pyrmont zu Bergheim, died without male descendants.
