Giflitz is the second largest district of the municipality of Edertal in the district of Waldeck-Frankenberg in northern Hesse ( Germany ) and the seat of the municipal administration.

history

In Giflitz, which lies on the Eder and was first mentioned as "Iuffelze" soon after 800, the state roads 3086 and 3332 as well as the federal road 485 meet . In the industrial area there are many shops. There are two schools in the village - one elementary school and one comprehensive school . The Wabern – Brilon Wald railway, which was used until 1995 , ran through Giflitz.

On July 1, 1971, the municipality of Edertal was re-established as part of the regional reform in Hesse through the voluntary merger of the previously independent municipalities of Bergheim and Giflitz.
