Andrew Thomas "Andy" Carroll (born January 6, 1989 in Gateshead ) is an English football player who is under contract with Newcastle United in the English Premier League .

Andy Carroll began his career as a professional footballer at Newcastle United . After he was promoted to the first team squad in 2006, the young striker made his professional debut on January 17, 2007. In the 5-1 home defeat in the FA Cup against Birmingham City , he was substituted on in the 80th minute of the game. On February 22 of the same year Carroll played for the first time in the UEFA Cup . He made his Premier League debut three days later against Wigan Athletic .

During the 2007/08 season, the striker was loaned to the second division Preston North End , for whom he scored his first professional goal on November 6, 2007 in the home game against Leicester City .

After he had completed some missions in the relegation season 2008/09 and scored three goals for Newcastle in the Premier League, he advanced in the 2009/10 season together with Kevin Nolan to the top scorers of the team with 17 goals each in the Football League Championship and rose to the end of the season with Newcastle United again in the Premier League. In the English first division he scored eleven goals for Newcastle in the first half of the 2010/11 season.

Liverpool FC

On January 31, 2011, Carroll moved to league rivals Liverpool , where he succeeded Fernando Torres . The transfer fee of the equivalent of 41 million euros was the most expensive transfer in British football to date. Carroll signed a contract until 2016. After being out in the first few weeks after his move due to an injury, he scored his first two goals on April 11, 2011 for Liverpool FC. In 2019, Carroll said in retrospect that when he moved from Newcastle at the time, he wished he would fail the medical check so as not to have to play for Liverpool.

West Ham United

On August 30, 2012 Carroll was for the 2012/13 season at West Ham United on loan. He had previously made two short appearances for Liverpool FC in the first two league games. He was firmly committed to the 2013/14 season . He signed a contract for six seasons until June 30, 2019 with the option of two more seasons.

National team

Andy Carroll was a national player in the English U-19 team. On August 11, 2009 he completed his first international match for the English U-21s against the Netherlands ; it followed on October 9, 2009, the second appearance in the 6-3 win against Macedonia , in which he scored his first two goals.

On November 17, 2010 he was for the first time in a friendly against France in the starting eleven of England's senior team , which lost 2-1. In an eleven peppered with reserve players, he was substituted in the 72nd minute for Jay Bothroyd , who was also making his debut . On March 29, 2011, he scored his first international goal for the Three Lions in a friendly against Ghana .
