Sean David Longstaff (born October 30, 1997 in North Shields ) is an English football player who plays as a midfielder for Newcastle United .

Career

Longstaff began his career with the Newcastle United youth team. In January 2017 he moved on loan to the Scottish Premiership Club Kilmarnock, together with Callum Roberts and Freddie Woodman . He joined Blackpool FC on loan for one season in July 2017 .

Longstaff impressed coach Rafael Benitez in the pre-season phase and was rewarded with a four-year contract in November 2018. Longstaff's first appearance for the A-team was in December 2018 in a 4-0 defeat against Liverpool . Two weeks later, after his first start in the FA Cup , Longstaff did his first full in the Premier League at Chelsea . This was followed by his first goal in the FA Cup series against Blackburn Rovers before taking the decisive penalty for Newcastle's 2-1 win against champions Manchester City in January 2019.

Private

His younger brother Matthew is also a footballer and also plays for Newcastle. His father David Longstaff is a well-known ice hockey player .
