Jonjo Shelvey (born February 27, 1992 in Romford , London ) is an English football player. The 1.83 m tall midfielder has been under contract with Newcastle United in the Premier League since 2016 .
Player career
Charlton Athletic
In April 2008, 16-year-old Jonjo Shelvey made his debut for Charlton Athletic in the 2007-08 Football League Championship . His team, which had been relegated from the 2006/07 Premier League in the previous year , clearly missed promotion with 11th place. On January 3, 2009, he scored his first competitive goal in the FA Cup against Norwich City . The 2008/09 season ended Charlton on a relegation zone and rose to the third-rate Football League One . In the 2009/10 season, his team missed promotion after a loss in the 1st play-off round against Swindon Town .
Liverpool FC
In the summer of 2010 Jonjo Shelvey moved to the English first division club Liverpool FC in the 2010/11 Premier League . He was one of the last transfers of the outgoing coach Rafael Benítez on September 22, 2010 he made his debut for his new club in the League Cup against Northampton Town . On October 24, 2010, his first first division game took place at home in Anfield against the Blackburn Rovers . Even after Kenny Dalglish replaced his predecessor Roy Hodgson as coach of Liverpool FC, Shelvey was regularly used in the first team.
On September 30, 2011, Liverpool announced that Shelvey would be loaned to Blackpool until December 31, 2011 . Shelvey has been playing for the LFC again since 2012 and is back on a regular basis.
Swansea City
For the 2013-14 season, Shelvey signed a four-year contract with Swansea City .
Newcastle United
On January 12, 2016 it was announced that Shelvey was moving to Newcastle United . He signed a five and a half year contract with the Magpies .
