Miguel Ángel Almirón Rejala (born February 10, 1994 in Asunción ) is a Paraguayan football player who is currently under contract with Newcastle United .

Adolescence

He took his first football steps at the Paraguayan first division club Atlético 3 de Febrero. After a trial session in the youth department of Club Nacional , he decided to go to Cerro Porteño at the age of 14 .

Cerro Porteño (2013-2015)

After five years in the youth department, Almirón made his professional debut for Cerro Porteño against Deportivo Capiatá on March 10, 2013. About a month later (on April 19, 2013) he scored his first professional goal against Club Rubio Ñu.

Club Atlético Lanús (2015-2016)

In August 2015, the Argentine first division club CA Lanús announced the commitment of Almirón. In his first season under Guillermo Barros Schelotto he was slowly introduced to the team, a year later Almirón was a regular under Jorge Almirón . Almirón was instrumental in Lanús' title win at this time.

Atlanta United (2017-2019)

For the 2017 season, Almirón moved to Major League Soccer to the newly founded Atlanta United franchise and signed a contract as a "Young Designated Player". According to media reports Atlanta United paid a transfer fee of 8 million US dollars . On March 12, 2017, he scored his first MLS goals with a brace in the 6-1 win over Minnesota United . He scored his first hat trick on May 20 against Houston Dynamo . In August 2017 he was appointed to the MLS All-Star Team for the first time . After the season he was voted number 1 of the "24 players under the age of 24". With 12 goals and 14 assists, he was again included in the MLS Best XI alongside his teammate Josef Martínez . With Atlanta he won the MLS Cup 2018 2-0 against the Portland Timbers .

Newcastle United (2019–)

National team

He played Almirón at the U-20 South American Football Championship 2013 for the Paraguayan U20 national team . After he played a major role in the team's good performance, he was nominated for the 2013 U-20 World Cup a few weeks later . He made his debut for Paraguay's senior team in September 2015.
