Josef Alexander Martínez Mencia (born May 19, 1993 in Valencia ) is a Venezuelan football player . The striker is under contract with Atlanta United .

Career

society

Josef Martínez, who came from the youth of FC Caracas , made his professional debut for the capital's club on August 21, 2010 in the Primera División . After 36 appearances in the top division of Venezuela, he moved to Switzerland at the beginning of 2012 to the BSC Young Boys . He made his debut there in February. In the 2013/14 season he was loaned to FC Thun . There he scored eight goals in 18 games by the end of December and returned to Bern in January 2014.

On June 7, 2014 Martínez was bought by the Italian first division club FC Turin . In his first season in Italy he started 20 times and played a total of 26 games with three goals scored. In the years to come, however, he was no longer part of the team's regular squad.

For the 2017 Major League Soccer season , Martínez was loaned to Atlanta United . In his second game for the franchise on March 12, 2017, he scored three goals and was subsequently awarded the MLS Player of Week . Martínez was signed on in March 2017. Martínez scored 19 goals in 20 games in the regular season. In the first round of the playoffs, in which he was eliminated with his team, he could not score. In the 2018 season , Martínez was the top scorer in the regular season with 31 goals in 34 games. In the playoffs he scored four more goals in five missions and won the championship with his team.

National team

He made his debut in the Venezuelan national football team on August 7, 2011 against the team from El Salvador.
