Edgar Eduardo Castillo Carrillo (born October 8, 1986 in Las Cruces , New Mexico ) is a Mexican -American football player .

The son of Mexican immigrants played for both the Mexican and the United States national soccer team. He is one of two players, alongside Martin Vasquez , who were active for both countries. Since 2015 he has been playing for CF Monterrey in the Mexican MX league . For the 2018 season he is on loan to the Colorado Rapids .

Player career

Castillo grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and attended Mayfield High School, where he was active on the school team. In 2002 he received the NSCAA / Adidas High School State Player of the Year award and was named one of New Mexico's top high school soccer players. Castillo also played for a local youth football club and reached the final of the Dallas Cup, an international youth tournament, with the team in 2004.

Professional in Mexico

Edgar Castillo played for the Mexican first division club Santos Laguna from 2006 to 2008 . After he had achieved a regular place, he was able to achieve the championship in the MX League with the team in 2008. In January 2009 he moved to Club América , where he played until 2012, but was loaned to other Mexican teams several times.

On November 23, 2011, he was loaned by Club Tijuana , to which he moved on June 7, 2012. In 2014 he joined Club Atlas.

National team

In August 2007, Castillo was invited to three friendly matches for the Mexican national soccer team. On August 22, 2007, he made his debut in a game against Colombia . In March 2008, he took part in the Olympic qualification tournament, the CONCACAF Men Pre-Olympic Tournament, for the 2008 Summer Olympics with Mexico's U-23 .

He played two more games for Mexico.

United States

After a rule change by FIFA, Castillo was allowed to play for the national football team of the United States , as he has not yet played an international competitive game for Mexico. This was only possible because Castillo was not over 21 years old.

On November 18, 2009, he made his US debut in a friendly against Denmark . In 2013 he won the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the United States .
