The Major League Soccer 2004 season was as follows.
DC United won the MLS Cup for the fourth time in this Major League Soccer season . The main news of 2004 was that "child prodigy" Freddy Adu was signed to DC United at the age of 14 and scored his first goal against the MetroStars . As the youngest player in North American sports history, he scored a total of 5 goals.
Columbus Crew set an MLS record with 18 non-lost games in a row in the second half of the regular season.
The championship final took place for the second time in a row at the Home Depot Center . For the first time a player was sent off in the final ( Dema Kovalenko after handball on the goal line).
