The 12th major league soccer season began with the regular season on April 7, 2007 and ended with the 2007 MLS Cup on November 18, 2007 at RFK Stadium in Washington .
Innovations
- The newly founded Canadian club Toronto FC is participating in the game for the first time. This increases the number of teams to 13. The club plays in the Eastern Conference , but will not take part in the US Open Cup, the national cup competition.
- Each club plays 30 regular games and not 32 as before.
- It is allowed to sponsor shirts. The first franchise to run this is Real Salt Lake with the company XanGo . The New York Red Bulls ( Red Bull ), LA Galaxy ( Herbalife ) and Toronto FC ( BMO Financial Group ) will also be sponsoring shirts.
- The Designated Player Rule is implemented with immediate effect. This rule states that each club can set the salary for a maximum of one player without first contacting the MLS. This rule is also called the Beckham Rule because it was first applied by the LA Galaxy when they signed David Beckham from Real Madrid .
- The best four teams of the regular season qualify for the North American SuperLiga 2008.
- Two new football-only stadiums will open: BMO Field in Toronto and Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City (Colorado).

Sierra Mist All-Star Game
The 12th MLS All-Star Game took place on July 19, 2007. A selection of the best players from Major League Soccer met the current Scottish champions Celtic Glasgow at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Colorado . The MLS selection won 2-0 after goals from Juan Pablo Angel and Juan Carlos Toja .
National Cup
- 8 out of 12 teams from the MLS take part in the tournament. Toronto FC is excluded, as this is a Canadian club. They got into the third round of the cup
