Robin Fraser (born December 17, 1966 in Kingston , Jamaica ) is a former American football player and current coach.

The Jamaica-born defender played six years in the American Professional Soccer League and ten in Major League Soccer . In total, Fraser was active in 27 international matches for the United States national soccer team .

Fraser was an athletic, tech-savvy defender with a good overview who also played as a libero.

Player career

youth

Born in Jamaica, Fraser grew up in Miami , Florida and attended Miami Palmetto High School in Pinecrest, a suburb of the city. After graduating from high school, he moved to Florida International University in 1984 . With the college team FIU Golden Panthers, he won the NCAA Men's Division II Soccer Championship in the first year.

Professional career

After graduating from college, he signed a contract with the Miami Sharks, who played in what was then the American Soccer League . In 1990 he moved to the Colorado Foxes, who played in the American Professional Soccer League.

With the establishment of Major League Soccer in 1996, Fraser signed a contract with the MLS. In the 1996 MLS Inaugural Player Draft, he was selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy as the first player. He played a total of five years for the Californians, was voted into the best team of the year four times and in 1999 was honored with the MLS Defender of the Year Award as the best defender in the league.

Before the start of the 2001 season, Fraser moved to the Colorado Rapids for a fee . After 74 league games, he moved again to the Columbus Crew . There he was awarded the MLS Defender of the Year Award for the second time in 2004.

After the 2005 season he announced his retirement.

National team

Between 1988 and 2001 he also played 27 times for the USA national team. In 1999 he was in the starting line-up in the USA's 3-0 victory over Germany. But he was not nominated for a World Cup.

Trainer

From 2007 to 2010 he was an assistant coach at Real Salt Lake in the MLS. In 2011 he took over the position of head coach for the first time and has been responsible for CD Chivas USA ever since .
