He had been part of the professional squad of Arsenal FC since the 2008/09 season and was jersey number 12. For the second half of the 2010/11 season Vela was loaned to West Bromwich Albion , for the 2011/12 season to Real Sociedad . After a convincing season in Spain, he was signed for the 2012/13 season. On March 30, 2014, Vela made his 100th La Liga game for Real Sociedad.
For the MLS season in 2018 moved to the newly founded Vela MLS - Franchise Los Angeles FC . He received a contract effective January 1, 2018 and became the first Designated Player in the history of the franchise. In the season 2019 the Mexicans broke with his 34 goals in the regular season the first in the pre-season record set by Josef Martínez , who 31 times had met. This earned him the election of the season's MVP .
National team
The striker was the 2005 winner of the “ golden shoe ” (5 goals) at the U-17 World Cup in Peru and thus had a large share in winning the title for Mexico. At the U-20 World Cup in Canada in 2007 , he made it to the quarter-finals with Mexico. He was next to Giovanni dos Santos and Chicharito , as the greatest hope for future successes of the Mexican national team .
