Chicharito [ tʃitʃaˈɾito ] (born June 1, 1988 in Guadalajara ), real name Javier Hernández Balcázar and also known as Javier Hernández , is a Mexican football player who is used as a striker . He has been under contract with LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer since January 2020 and plays for the Mexican national team , of which he is the record scorer.

family

Javier Hernández got his nickname Chicharito ([ tʃitʃaɾito ]; German  small pea or Erb ) with reference to the former nickname of his father Javier (* 1961), the chícharo (pea) was called and cadres of the Mexican national team was one that the 1986 World Cup denied in his own country; his father was also a striker. The same goes for his maternal grandfather, Tomás Balcázar , who played in the 1954 World Cup and scored a goal in the game against France.

Club career

Beginnings in Mexico

Chicharito emerged from the youth department of Chivas Guadalajara , to which he had belonged since he was nine years old. His first season as a professional (2005/06) Chicharito played for the reserve team Chivas Coras playing in the second division . On January 21, 2020, Chicharito moved to Major League Soccer for LA Galaxy . He signed the franchise from Carson , California a contract as a Designated Player .

His first international match completed Chicharito in a friendly against Colombia (1: 2) on September 30, 2009. His first two international goals he scored in a friendly against Bolivia (5: 0) on February 24, 2010. On June 17, 2010 he achieved international fame when he scored the opening goal for Mexico in a surprising 2-0 win in the preliminary round match against the then reigning World Cup finalist France . The win was also synonymous with the first international win against France.

In the games for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 , Chicharito played all games for the Mexican national team and scored a total of seven goals, making him the second most successful goalscorer in a single competition in history after his compatriot Luis Roberto Alves , who scored eleven in 1993 of the Gold Cup is. In addition, Chicharito was voted the best player of the 2011 tournament.
